My Insights — User FAQ

About My Insights

What is My Insights?

My Insights is a feature in Champion Health that turns your wearable and phone health data into three daily scores: Readiness, Effort, and Recovery. Each score is personalised to you — it compares your day against your own typical levels, not against a universal standard.

Based on your scores, My Insights also surfaces three content recommendations tailored to how you're doing today.

Is My Insights a medical assessment?

No. My Insights is not a medical tool and does not provide clinical advice or diagnoses. Scores are based on your own activity and sleep patterns and are designed to help guide what content might be most relevant for you on a given day. If you have any health concerns, please speak to a healthcare professional.

Your Scores

What are the three scores?

My Insights shows three scores, each on a scale of 0–100:

  • Effort — reflects how active you've been today, based on your steps and active calories.
  • Recovery — reflects how well your body has recovered, based on last night's sleep and your resting heart rate.
  • Readiness — your overall daily score, combining Effort and Recovery. It's weighted towards Recovery (60%) because rest has a bigger impact on how you feel than activity alone.

All scores are rounded to the nearest whole number.

What does my Readiness score mean?

Your Readiness score falls into one of four states:

Score Label What it means
85–100 Strong Day You're well-rested and active. Push yourself with challenging content.
70–84 Good to Go You're in good shape. Moderate activity and balanced content recommended.
50–69 Go Steady Take it a bit easier today. Lighter sessions and recovery content.
0–49 Recovery Focus Your body needs rest. Prioritise sleep, stretching, and mindfulness.

What is a 'baseline' and how is it calculated?

Your baseline is your personal average for each health metric, calculated using a rolling 14-day median. This means your scores reflect what's normal for you, not a one-size-fits-all target. We can calculate a personalised baseline once we have data from at least 7 days within that 14-day period. These days do not need to be consecutive. If there isn’t enough data yet, Champion Health will temporarily use default baseline values. As more of your health data becomes available, your baseline will automatically become personalised. If you already have historical data stored in Apple Health or Health Connect when you connect Champion Health, we’ll use that data (where available) to calculate your baseline from the start. Remember: The values shown on the Insights screen always reflect your current health metrics for today. Your historical data is used only to calculate your personalised baseline.

The four baselines are:

  • Steps baseline — your typical daily step count
  • Active calories baseline — your typical daily active calorie burn
  • Sleep baseline — your typical sleep duration
  • Resting HR baseline — your typical resting heart rate

If you haven't accumulated enough data yet (fewer than 7 days), the app uses sensible starting defaults until your personal baseline builds up:

Metric Default value
Steps 7,000
Active calories 400 kcal
Sleep 7.0 hours
Resting heart rate 65 bpm

The defaults are also used if your personal baseline for a metric calculates to zero — for example, if you had complete rest days throughout the baseline period.

Connecting Your Data

What devices and apps are compatible?

My Insights reads data from Apple Health (iOS) and Health Connect (Android). Any device or app that writes data to either of these will work automatically — you don't need a specific brand of smartwatch.

This includes popular wearables like Apple Watch, Samsung Galaxy Watch, Fitbit, Garmin, Oura Ring, Whoop, and others, as well as any sleep or fitness apps that sync with Apple Health or Health Connect.

Steps and active calories can also come from your phone alone, even without a wearable. Sleep and heart rate data typically require a wearable or dedicated tracking device.

How do I connect my health data on iPhone?

  1. Open Champion Health and go to My Insights
  2. Tap Connect Health Data and follow the on-screen prompts
  3. Once you’re in the Health App, select the tab at the bottom of the screen called Sharing.
  4. Scroll down and select apps. Select Champion Health, and grant access to the metrics you want to share (Steps, Active Calories, Sleep, Heart Rate)

To change permissions later:

  • iPhone: Settings → Privacy & Security → Health → Champion Health → toggle off individual metrics or select Turn Off All

How do I connect my health data on Android?

  1. Open Champion Health and go to My Insights
  2. Tap Connect Health Data or tap a metric tile that shows missing data.
  3. You’ll be taken to the app’s Settings screen.
  4. Select the health metric you want to connect (for example, Steps, Active Calories, Sleep, or Heart Rate) and follow instructions presented in modal.
  5. If you are trying to connect health metric again - you will be redirect to Health App to finish connection
  6. If Health Connect isn't installed on your device, you'll be directed to the Play Store to install it first
  7. Follow the prompts to grant Champion Health access to the metrics you want to share

To change permissions later, open the Health Connect app and manage Champion Health's access there.

Troubleshooting

Why can't I see my Recovery or Readiness score?

Recovery requires sleep data. If you haven't connected a sleep source, or sleep permission hasn't been granted, Recovery and Readiness will not be shown.

To fix this:

  • iPhone: open the Apple Health app → Data Access & Devices → Champion Health → enable Sleep
  • Android: open the Health Connect app and make sure Champion Health has sleep permission enabled

Once sleep data is available, your Recovery and Readiness scores will appear the next time you open My Insights.

Why can't I see my Readiness score even though I have a Recovery score?

Readiness requires both a Recovery score and an Effort score. Effort is calculated from your steps data.

If steps permission hasn't been granted, Effort cannot be calculated and Readiness will not show. Make sure steps access is enabled in Apple Health (iOS) or Health Connect (Android). If you have a wearable, we recommend checking your health data has been synced from your wearable to your health app.

Why does my score look different today compared to yesterday?

Scores are based on your own typical levels, so they move when your activity or sleep changes relative to your baseline. A late night, an unusually intense workout, or a rest day can all shift your scores noticeably.

My scores look the same every day — is something wrong?

If your scores haven't changed after a few days, it's possible your health data isn't syncing correctly. Try:

  • Leaving and then returning to the My Insights screen to refresh
  • Checking that permissions are still enabled in Apple Health or Health Connect
  • Making sure your wearable or tracking app is actively syncing data

I've connected my health data but scores still aren't showing — what should I do?

There are a few possible reasons:

  • No data yet — if you've just connected, the app may not have enough data. Give it a day or two and check again. If you have a wearable device, double check that the data from your wearable (i.e. your smartwatch) is actually passing to your Health Kit on your phone. Try re-syncing your device to your phone.
  • Missing sleep data — without sleep, Recovery and Readiness can't be calculated. Check your sleep source is connected and syncing.
  • Missing steps data — without steps, Effort and Readiness can't be calculated.
  • Permissions — check that all permissions are enabled in Apple Health (iOS) or Health Connect (Android).

If the issue persists, please contact the Champion Health support team.

The calorie tile shows as locked — is something wrong?

No — this just means active calorie data isn't available. Your Effort score will still be calculated using your steps alone. You can unlock the calorie tile by granting active calorie permissions in Apple Health (iOS) or Health Connect (Android).

The heart rate tile shows as locked — is something wrong?

No — this means heart rate data isn't available. Your Recovery score will still be calculated using your sleep data alone (capped at 90). To include heart rate in your Recovery score, connect a wearable that tracks HR and ensure heart rate permission is granted.

Privacy & Data

What health data does Champion Health use?

My Insights uses four metrics:

  • Steps — from your phone or wearable
  • Active calories — from your phone or wearable
  • Sleep duration — from a sleep-tracking wearable or app
  • Resting heart rate — from a wearable

Distance and floors climbed can be read by the app but are not used in My Insights scoring.

What data does Champion Health store?

All health data, including your steps, active calories, sleep duration and heart rate are all stored locally on your device - this means none of that information is sent beyond the confides of your phone. We do track the distribution of users across each Readiness, Effort and Recovery levels, but this is aggregated anonymised data and simply helps us understand where we should best be focusing our next content on.

Can I turn off health data sharing?

Yes. You can revoke permissions at any time:

  • iPhone: Settings → Privacy & Security → Health → Champion Health → toggle off individual metrics or select Turn Off All
  • Android: Health Connect app → Apps → Champion Health → adjust or remove permissions

If you remove access, My Insights scores will no longer be shown until you reconnect.
